Recognizing Oneself as Awareness- Day 84 100 Days Writing Challenge

As humans, we have a strong focus on our sense of self. Some call it ego whereas some term it as an identity. Ego does serve a useful purpose in our day to day living when it comes to getting things done. A healthy ego is perhaps even necessary to survive in a materialistic world and I see no harm in that. However, over a period of time, the identification with the ego can get too high. This means we overidentify with our sense of self while losing touch with our inner essence. Work can become too exhausting and future can look scary when you think about what you need to do. However, if we could bring attention to the awareness that stays beyond our conscious thought patterns, we start losing that identification with ego. We begin to see ourselves as the instrument of action rather than the doer, as Krishna suggests in the Bhagwat Gita. We open up to the flow of life as it is unfolding while surrendering to the present moment. It all starts with recognizing oneself as awareness.

This is the part of a summer writing experience by Lightbox Originals. As part of this, I will be writing 100 words a day for the next 100 days. You can find all posts under 100words tag here.
